Siamese Twins Omar And Ali Successfully Separated In Saudi Arabia
Riyadh, March 02, 2024 - In a significant medical achievement, Dr. Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al Rabeeah, Advisor at the Royal Court and Supervisor General of King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), along with his team, successfully separated Siamese twins Omar and Ali at the King Abdullah Specialized Children’s Hospital within King Abdulaziz Medical City of the National Guard. This visit by Dr. Al Rabeeah was to monitor the twins' recovery post-operation.
The medical procedure to separate the twins, who were joined at the lower chest and abdomen, was intricate, involving a shared liver, bile ducts, and intestines. A dedicated team of twenty-seven doctors, specialists, technicians, and nursing staff participated in this challenging operation. The surgery spanned approximately 11 hours and unfolded over six surgical phases.

Dr. Al Rabeeah conveyed his gratitude towards the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He acknowledged their continuous support and oversight of the Saudi program dedicated to the separation of conjoined twins.
The successful separation of Omar and Ali marks another milestone for the Kingdom's medical community, showcasing their expertise and commitment to complex pediatric surgeries. This operation not only highlights the advanced capabilities of Saudi Arabia's healthcare system but also underscores the humanitarian spirit championed by its leadership.
