Strategic Development Fund Partners With Machina Labs To Boost Advanced Manufacturing In The UAE
The Strategic Development Fund (SDF), an investment arm of the EDGE Group in Abu Dhabi, has announced a new partnership with Machina Labs. This US-based company is known for its AI-driven manufacturing and robotics. The agreement was finalised at the Dubai Airshow 2025 and aims to establish a joint venture for producing advanced metal structures using Machina Labs' cutting-edge technology.
The collaboration includes an initial investment from SDF, with potential funding reaching up to AED125 million. Both entities will explore opportunities to implement Machina Labs' manufacturing capabilities in the UAE and surrounding regions. They will focus on strategic sectors such as aerospace, defence, mobility, and other key industries.

Hamad Al Marar, Managing Director and CEO of EDGE Group, emphasised that this partnership aligns with EDGE's vision to boost the UAE's industrial growth through advanced technologies. He stated, "Partnerships that explore next-generation manufacturing solutions play an important role in supporting EDGE’s developmental roadmap and the nation’s position towards industrial sovereignty and excellence through innovation."
Machina Labs' RoboCraftsman™ platform is central to their operations. This software-defined robotic cell integrates forming, scanning, trimming, drilling, welding, and assembly without traditional tooling. This setup allows for rapid production cycles and scalable manufacturing of complex metal assemblies.
Edward Mehr, CEO and Co-Founder of Machina Labs, remarked on the collaboration: "The country’s commitment to industrial innovation, combined with EDGE Group’s strategic vision and SDF’s advanced investment strategy, creates an ideal environment for adopting next-generation manufacturing technologies."
Localisation and Future Prospects
Abdulla Naser Al Jaabari, Managing Director and CEO of SDF, highlighted their hybrid investment approach. He said it involves investing in startups developing dual-use technologies while forming partnerships to localise high-value tech. "SDF has identified several potential requirements where our project with Machina Labs will be able to contribute towards the EDGE ecosystem and SDF portfolio," he noted.
Machina Labs’ factory design supports quick deployment of full-scale manufacturing capacity. This reduces lead times significantly by establishing new production environments within weeks rather than years. The technology promises to enhance the UAE's manufacturing ecosystem and bolster supply chain resilience.
SDF plans to collaborate with partners to assess the feasibility of integrating these capabilities into the local market. The partnership aims to strengthen business scalability through rapidly deployable production capacity for defence and strategic sectors once finalised.
This collaboration marks a significant step towards enhancing industrial capabilities in the UAE by leveraging next-generation technologies in key sectors.
