Stc Group Commemorates First Saudi Green Initiative Day With Sustainability Pledge
On the occasion of the first-ever Saudi Green Initiative (SGI) Day, stc Group has stepped forward to highlight its pivotal role in fostering environmental sustainability within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This landmark day underscores stc Group's dedication towards achieving net-zero emissions by 20560 and its commitment to nurturing a healthier environment by 2030. The initiative, launched by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammad bin Salman in 2021, aims to galvanize nationwide climate action and enhance environmental awareness.
Since its inception, stc Group has been at the forefront of supporting SGI, demonstrating its commitment through various environmental sustainability efforts. The inaugural SGI Day serves as a platform to elevate awareness about the collective impact of environmental initiatives across Saudi Arabia and encourages community participation in driving a greener future. As a leading digital enabler, stc Group has introduced several key initiatives aimed at reducing its environmental footprint and ensuring sustainable growth for future generations.

Among the notable initiatives undertaken by stc Group are setting science-based targets aligned with the 1.5⁰C trajectory for 2030, pledging to plant one million trees across Saudi Arabia by the same year. In partnership with Ertiqa, stc Group is also focused on preserving natural resources through the refurbishment, donation, and recycling of disposed stc devices. This effort is complemented by a device trade-in program designed to prolong device lifespans and minimize e-waste.
Furthering its commitment to waste management, stc Group has introduced SAWA cards made from 100% recyclable plastic and embraced eSIM technology to eliminate the need for physical SIM cards. An internal recycling program within stc Group has successfully recorded 1250 metric tons of waste generated from network activities and operational maintenance, with 61% being recycled. Additionally, the transition to paperless operations across all internal transactions has led to a significant reduction in paper consumption, with a 55% decrease compared to 2021 and a 91% decrease compared to 2020.
Sustainability remains a core pillar of stc’s business strategy, reflecting the Group's active participation in SGI Day and its efforts to align with national objectives for environmental sustainability. stc Group's initiatives not only underscore its role as a proactive steward of sustainable growth but also highlight the critical role businesses play in adopting responsible practices for a sustainable future.
The collective efforts of stc Group towards environmental sustainability are instrumental in moving towards a greener future. By embracing innovative solutions and fostering community engagement, stc Group continues to lead by example in the Kingdom's journey towards environmental stewardship and sustainable development.
