St. Francis Church Commemorates Pope Francis With Memorial Mass In Abu Dhabi

A memorial Mass for Pope Francis, who passed away last Monday at 88, was held at St. Francis of Assisi Church in the Abrahamic Family House, Abu Dhabi. Archbishop Christophe Zakhia El-Kassis, the Apostolic Nuncio to the UAE, led the service. Bishop Paolo Martinelli and members of the Christian community, along with diplomatic representatives, were present.

Sheikh Salem bin Khalid Al Qassimi, Minister of Culture, and other officials like Major General Khalifa Mohammed Al Khaili and Engineer Hamad Ali Al Dhaheri also attended. The gathering highlighted the UAE's commitment to fostering unity and peace among diverse communities through such spiritual events.

Archbishop El-Kassis remarked on Pope Francis' legacy: "His Holiness Pope Francis carried a message of peace to the world with humility and clarity. His faith was a living testimony, expressed through the simplicity of his life, his courage in facing challenges, and his defense of the weak."

Abdullah Al Shehhi from the Abrahamic Family House noted that hosting this event reflects UAE’s dedication to human fraternity and peace. He emphasised that these values are rooted in principles established by Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, which continue to guide efforts towards interfaith dialogue.

The Mass concluded with attendees expressing gratitude to the UAE for supporting initiatives that unite people spiritually. They acknowledged that the Abrahamic Family House serves as a global emblem of cultural connection and mutual respect.

The event underscored how such gatherings can strengthen ties between different cultures and religions. It showcased how shared values can bridge gaps and promote understanding across diverse communities worldwide.
