The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) has introduced nine new buses that meet Euro 5 exhaust emissions standards. This addition increases the emirate's public transport fleet to 138 buses. The initiative is part of SRTA's ongoing efforts to modernise public transport, aiming to improve services for both residents and visitors by adhering to top operational and environmental standards.
Engineer Yousef Khamis Al Othmani, Chairman of SRTA, highlighted the Authority's dedication to expanding its public transport fleet. He noted that this expansion aligns with the emirate's population growth and rising demand for public transport. The new buses are designed to offer safe, reliable, and comfortable travel options while supporting Sharjah Government's vision for sustainable transportation solutions.

Al Othmani further explained that these buses incorporate advanced technologies with high fuel efficiency and low emissions. This move underscores SRTA's commitment to a sustainable public transport system that prioritises environmental safety and air quality preservation. The specifications aim to reduce the carbon footprint and vehicle-related pollution while enhancing operational efficiency.
The Authority is implementing a comprehensive plan to develop its public transport fleet in response to urban expansion and population growth in Sharjah. Al Othmani stated that using modern, eco-friendly buses is central to SRTA's strategy. This approach aims to meet increasing demand for public transport services and encourage reliance on it as a primary daily transportation option.
Promoting a culture of public transport within the community is a priority for SRTA. Al Othmani emphasised the importance of providing modern, comfortable, and reliable transportation options that adhere to international standards. This effort helps reduce dependence on private vehicles, improves traffic flow, limits city congestion, and adds value to the local economy and quality of life.
Abdulaziz Al Jarwan, Director of Transport Affairs at SRTA, described the introduction of these new buses as a significant enhancement for Sharjah's public transport sector. He noted that SRTA continually works on improving fleet efficiency by equipping it with the latest, safest, and most convenient buses for public use.
Focus on Passenger Satisfaction
Al Jarwan confirmed SRTA's commitment to consistently upgrading operational service quality. The goal is to achieve passenger satisfaction and boost confidence in the public transport system. By focusing on these areas, SRTA aims to ensure that passengers have a positive experience when using public transportation in Sharjah.
This strategic development reflects SRTA's broader objectives of fostering sustainable urban mobility solutions while addressing environmental concerns. Through these initiatives, SRTA seeks not only to enhance service quality but also contribute positively towards comprehensive community development.
