Department Of Community Development Launches Sportsmanship Values Initiative To Promote Respect In Abu Dhabi Sports

The Department of Community Development (DCD) has teamed up with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, the Department of Education and Knowledge, and the Emirates Schools Establishment to introduce the Sportsmanship Values initiative. This initiative is designed to cultivate a sports environment that prioritises respect. It aims to boost participation in sports and physical activities among diverse cultures, fostering a healthy and active community.

The initiative's objectives include instilling respect for rules, officials, competitors, and society. It also aims to promote sportsmanship, positive conduct, and ethical behaviour in both competitive and recreational settings. By embracing diversity and promoting fair competition, the values aim to create an inclusive sports environment that strengthens Abu Dhabi’s reputation as a leading sports destination.

Mohamed Helal Al Balooshi, Executive Director of the Community Engagement and Sports Sector at DCD, stated, "The Sportsmanship Values reflect the core values of Abu Dhabi society, which are based on respect, positivity, and strong morals. The initiative embodies the vision of our leadership, which fully supports athletes and encourages sports for all."

Al Balooshi further explained that engaging in sports activities is crucial for building a healthy society. The DCD collaborates with partners to promote a culture of sports and physical activity by supporting both competitive and entertainment events. This includes advocating for sportsmanship, respect, and friendship while ensuring all stakeholders understand their roles in nurturing these values.

Talal Al Hashemi from the Abu Dhabi Sports Council expressed support for this initiative. He noted that it aligns with the values of tolerance and coexistence promoted by leadership. Sulaiman Al Kaabi from the Students' Wellbeing Sector highlighted the Ministry of Education’s dedication to integrating sportsmanship values into education to enhance students' physical and mental well-being.

Encouraging Adoption Among Professionals

The initiative encourages sports entities and professionals in Abu Dhabi to embrace these values. These include respect, safety, fairness, dignity, solidarity, and excellence. By doing so, it seeks to ensure that everyone involved in sports understands their role in fostering a positive environment.

This collaborative effort aims to build a community where respect is at the forefront of all sporting activities. Through this initiative, Abu Dhabi hopes to set an example as a city that values ethics in sports while promoting health and inclusivity across its diverse population.
