Sports Boulevard Foundation Launches First Phase Of Project With Five Key Destinations In Riyadh

The Sports Boulevard Foundation, led by HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, has opened the first phase of the Sports Boulevard project in Riyadh. This phase includes five key destinations: Wadi Hanifah, the Promenade, the intersection of Prince Mohammed bin Salman Road and Prince Turki bin Abdulaziz Al-Awwal Road, Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University internal loop, and Sands Sports Park. The project's total completed length is now 83 km, with an overall progress of 40%.

Wadi Hanifah is the first completed destination in this project. Located in western Riyadh, it stretches 13.4 km from Al-Olab Dam to Jeddah Road, passing through Diriyah Gate. It offers pedestrian pathways, cycling and equestrian trails, green spaces, and rest areas for visitors. The Cycling Bridge connects Wadi Hanifah to the Promenade at King Khalid Road and Prince Mohammed bin Salman Road.

First Phase of Sports Boulevard Opens in Riyadh

The Promenade extends 4 km and follows the urban design code inspired by Salmani architecture. It provides cycling paths for both professionals and amateurs, rest stops for cyclists, green spaces, water features, walking trails, children's playgrounds, retail outlets, and centers for bicycle rentals and accessories. This area enhances safe mobility between Diriyah and the Promenade along Prince Mohammed bin Salman Road.

At the intersection of Prince Mohammed bin Salman Road and Prince Turki bin Abdulaziz Al-Awwal Road stands the Arts Tower. This installation is inspired by high-voltage electricity towers that once lined the road. Its colorful geometric panels create reflections with sunlight, making it a distinctive landmark for visitors.

Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University features a 20 km internal loop track designed with cycling and pedestrian pathways. These paths connect the university’s facilities to enhance accessibility for students, staff, and the public. Meanwhile, Sands Sports Park is located southeast of King Khalid International Airport.

Sands Sports Park caters to both professionals and amateurs with dedicated cycling paths, mountain bike trails, BMX tracks, hiking trails, and equestrian routes. At its center is the Najdi Flower cycling route for professionals stretching over 45 km. Over 350,000 square meters of sand dunes have been rehabilitated to improve the natural landscape.

Future Developments

The project will introduce more sports facilities in future phases to enhance visitor experiences further. The five destinations will be open to visitors starting tomorrow. For more information on these destinations or access details visit www.SportsBoulevard.sa.

The foundation previously opened the Prince Turki bin Abdulaziz Al-Awwal Road Underpass to improve traffic flow in Riyadh. Construction continues on other project destinations like those beyond the Promenade and various underpasses including King Abdulaziz Road Underpass.

This initiative supports Saudi Vision 2030 by promoting physical well-being and fostering a vibrant community where residents enjoy a high quality of life in an inviting environment.
