Special Olympics UAE Recognises Unified Healthcare Providers For Commitment To Inclusion

Special Olympics UAE recently hosted an event at Sofitel Abu Dhabi to honour 11 healthcare facilities. These facilities were recognised as Unified Healthcare Providers for their commitment to enhancing healthcare services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The ceremony also acknowledged 38 partners, including ADNOC, who have been instrumental in helping Special Olympics UAE maintain the Healthy Community title.

The event celebrated the graduation of a new group of Health Ambassadors. These ambassadors have completed their training to advocate for inclusion and healthy living. Dr. Timothy Shriver, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Special Olympics International, and Ayman Abdel Wahab, President and Managing Director of Special Olympics MENA, attended the ceremony. They emphasised the importance of Unified healthcare in supporting people of determination.

Celebrating Unified Healthcare Providers in UAE

The Unified Healthcare Providers Programme was initiated in 2021 through collaboration between Special Olympics UAE and various health authorities. This programme aims to equip medical professionals with the skills needed to provide specialised care for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Among this year's awardees were Samaya Specialised Centre - Bateen and Khalifa City branches, Irish Wellness Medical Centre, Burjeel Medical City, and Millennium Hospital.

Talal Al Hashemi, National Director of Special Olympics UAE, highlighted the significance of these efforts during the ceremony. He stated, "The health of people of determination is a national priority, clearly evidenced by the collaborative efforts of government and private entities. Health entities across the UAE are committed to offering comprehensive care that fosters inclusion and improves quality of life, ensuring that individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities are fully integrated into society."

The recognition event underscored how collaborative efforts between government bodies and private organisations are crucial in advancing healthcare services for people with intellectual disabilities. By working together, these entities ensure that comprehensive care is accessible to all individuals, promoting inclusion within society.

This initiative not only acknowledges healthcare providers but also highlights the ongoing commitment to improving quality of life for people with intellectual disabilities in the UAE. The dedication shown by these facilities sets a benchmark for others in the region.

The ceremony concluded by reinforcing the importance of continued support from both public and private sectors in achieving inclusive healthcare goals. Such partnerships are vital in ensuring that individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities receive the care they deserve.
