Sheikh Dr. Abdullah Bin Mohammed Bin Ibrahim Al Al-Sheikh To Lead Saudi Delegation At 149th IPU Assembly In Geneva

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will be represented at the 149th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva by Sheikh Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Al-Sheikh, Speaker of the Shura Council. This event will gather numerous parliamentarians and delegates from international organisations.

Dr. Al-Sheikh highlighted the significance of parliamentary diplomacy, stressing the Shura Council's crucial role in tackling regional and global challenges through various forums and activities. He acknowledged the leadership of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for enhancing Saudi Arabia's influence both regionally and internationally.

This year's assembly will concentrate on "Harnessing Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) for a More Peaceful and Sustainable Future." Discussions will be guided by the Union’s four permanent committees. The Shura Council’s participation underscores Saudi Arabia’s dedication to engaging in international dialogues.

Secretary General of the Shura Council, Mohammed bin Dakhil Al-Mutairi, will also attend a meeting for National Parliaments’ Secretaries. Other members from the Council will join discussions in Standing Committees focused on UN Affairs, International Peace and Security, Democracy and Human Rights, and Sustainable Development.

Dr. Al-Sheikh is set to participate in the 37th emergency conference of the Arab Parliamentary Union. This gathering will include prominent Arab parliamentary figures such as Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Muhanna from the Shura Council.

In his press remarks, Dr. Al-Sheikh stated that "the Shura Council’s participation reflects Saudi Arabia’s commitment to contributing to international forums." His comments emphasised how Saudi Arabia aims to play an active role in global discussions under its current leadership.

The assembly provides a platform for dialogue on critical issues affecting peace and sustainability worldwide. It allows countries to collaborate on solutions through science and technology advancements.
