SPEA Celebrates Exceptional Achievements Of Schools In TIMSS 2023 Results

The Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA) recently celebrated the achievements of 89 private schools for their exceptional performance in the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) 2023. The ceremony took place at the Sharjah Education Academy (SEA), attended by Dr. Muhadditha Al Hashimi, Chairman of SPEA, Ali Al Hosani, Director-General of SPEA, and various educational representatives.

The TIMSS initiative, organised by the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA), evaluates students' skills in mathematics and science globally. This year marked Sharjah's debut as a standard emirate participant. The results were impressive, with Sharjah’s private schools ranking 10th worldwide in eighth-grade mathematics and 13th in science among 72 educational systems.

SPEA Honours Schools for TIMSS Success

Dr. Al Hashimi commended the outstanding accomplishments of Sharjah's private schools, highlighting their excellence on both national and international stages. She acknowledged the support and guidance from His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, in advancing educational initiatives.

In her speech, Dr. Al Hashimi emphasised the need to continue enhancing educational quality to foster a generation capable of creativity and leadership. She urged ongoing efforts to nurture innovative minds that can lead future advancements.

Tuula Johanna Yrjölä, Ambassador of Finland to the UAE, also attended the event. She praised Sharjah’s progress in education and its strong bilateral partnerships. The ceremony included presentations on TIMSS 2023 results, speeches from officials, and discussions on improving students’ skills in mathematics, science, and reading.

The TIMSS results showed that many schools achieved high international rankings. In fourth-grade mathematics, 64 schools exceeded or matched the international average, while 75 did so in science. For eighth grade, 71 schools surpassed or equalled the global average in mathematics, with 70 achieving similar success in science.

Encouraging Future Excellence

The event aimed to honour top-performing schools while motivating the educational community to pursue further excellence. It highlighted leveraging advanced technologies to boost global competitiveness among students.

Dr. Al Hashimi and Al Hosani concluded by recognising distinguished schools for their achievements. They reaffirmed SPEA’s dedication to advancing education in line with His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah's vision.

The ceremony underscored SPEA's commitment to fostering an environment where education thrives through innovation and leadership development.
