Spanish Prime Minister Discusses Palestinian Statehood With Arab-Islamic Summit Delegation

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez met today with the delegation of the Ministerial Committee Assigned by the Joint Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit to address developments in the Gaza Strip. The delegation was led by Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah.

The meeting was attended by Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Palestinian Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Dr. Mohammed Mustafa, Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Al-Safadi, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, and Organization of Islamic Cooperation Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha.

Spain Talks Palestinian Statehood

The committee members commended Spain's decision to recognize the State of Palestine. They pledged to continue advocating for broader recognition of Palestinian statehood to secure Palestinians' rights and promote peace amid ongoing extremism, violence, and violations of international law.

The discussions centred on the progress made by the committee in supporting Palestinian statehood. Emphasis was placed on the urgency of achieving a two-state solution and establishing a Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the Arab Peace Initiative and other international proposals.

Ceasefire and Humanitarian Aid

Efforts to halt Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, including Rafah City, were also discussed. The participants stressed the need for an immediate ceasefire and unimpeded delivery of substantial humanitarian aid throughout the strip.

Addressing Humanitarian Catastrophe

The meeting also explored mechanisms for addressing the humanitarian crisis facing Gaza Strip residents. The discussants urged an end to all unilateral Israeli actions in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, to achieve a just and comprehensive peace, protect Palestinian rights, and ensure regional security.
