Spain Welcomes Over 200,000 Visitors From UAE In 2024 Amid Growing Tourism Trends

Spain saw a significant influx of over 200,000 visitors from the UAE in 2024. This figure includes both Emirati nationals and residents. Carlos Ruiz González, Director of the Spanish Tourist Office for the GCC, highlighted this as a 17% increase from 2023. This rise indicates a steady recovery in tourism between Spain and the UAE post-pandemic.

González noted that tourists from the UAE and the wider Gulf region spend more than the global average. On average, each tourist from these areas spends around €3,000 per trip. This is nearly double what European tourists typically spend, even though they form the bulk of Spain's visitors.

The spending habits of GCC tourists are notably higher than those of other visitors. González pointed out that about 90% of Spain's tourists come from Europe, mainly the UK, Germany, and France. Despite this, GCC visitors' expenditure significantly surpasses that of European tourists.

During his participation in the Discover Europe Travel Summit meets Marhaba 2025 in Dubai, González shared insights into these trends. He emphasised that Spanish interest in the UAE is growing steadily. Traditionally, Spaniards prefer holidaying within Spain or nearby European countries.

The GCC market's significance for Spanish tourism is increasing, particularly with regard to visitor numbers and quality. González stressed that this region holds great potential for future growth. The UAE stands out as a key player in this dynamic.

"We are committed to further developing our relations in the region," González stated. "We believe there is significant potential for growth in the coming years." His remarks underscore Spain's dedication to strengthening ties with the Gulf region.

González concluded by highlighting Spain's commitment to fostering stronger connections with the GCC countries. The focus remains on enhancing tourism relations and tapping into new opportunities for mutual benefit.
