Space42 Launches MENA's First High Altitude Platform Stations Manufacturing Facility In Abu Dhabi

Mira Aerospace, a subsidiary of Space42, has launched the first High Altitude Platform Stations (HAPS) manufacturing centre in Abu Dhabi. This facility aims to boost production capabilities, advance research and development, and support the commercialisation of HAPS technology. Covering 4,500 square meters, it will produce over 20 HAPS UAVs annually for civil, environmental, and defence uses. This initiative aligns with the UAE's goal to lead in aerospace and space-based connectivity innovation.

Space42 is pivotal in advancing the UAE’s National Space Strategy 2030 by enhancing sovereign space technology and manufacturing capabilities. The new HAPS facility underscores this commitment by fostering innovation and resilience in advanced industries. Khaled Al Marzooqi, CEO of Mira Aerospace, stated that as global demand for HAPS grows, Space42 is investing strategically to maintain leadership in this market. "The decision to build our new HAPS manufacturing facility in Abu Dhabi reflects our commitment to creating reliable, cost-effective systems with advanced space technology," he said.

Space42 is collaborating with ICEYE to co-produce Earth Observation (EO) satellites in the UAE. These efforts aim to enhance the UAE’s EO Space Program by building national capabilities in satellite-based remote sensing. The UAE stands out as the only Middle Eastern country with domestic aerospace manufacturing capabilities. Investments like the HAPS facility are part of Space42's strategy to scale efficiently and expand its global industry impact.

The new facility is designed to centralise operations and meet rising demand for HAPS solutions. By developing local manufacturing capabilities, Space42 aims to build unique competencies and ensure efficient scaling of operations. This strategic initiative positions Space42 as a preferred partner for premium geospatial data while demonstrating strong financial stewardship.

Mira Aerospace has achieved significant milestones recently. In October 2024, it developed two advanced payloads for various applications such as environmental monitoring and disaster management. The EO payload provides precise data for decision-making, while the Telecommunications payload offers direct-to-device connectivity between aerial and ground platforms.

In February 2025, Mira Aerospace partnered with XRANGE to establish a permanent testing hub for high-altitude UAV trials. These developments highlight Mira Aerospace's commitment to advancing UAV technology and supporting diverse applications across different sectors.

Space42 is recognised globally as a leader in the HAPS domain. It was the first company worldwide to demonstrate 5G connectivity from the stratosphere using heavier-than-air HAPS. This achievement underscores its innovative approach in leveraging cutting-edge technologies for enhanced connectivity solutions.

The establishment of this new manufacturing hub marks a significant step forward for Mira Aerospace. By focusing on developing in-house competencies that evolve with market needs, the facility provides a competitive edge and creates long-term growth value for Space42 and its stakeholders.
