Importance Of Migratory Birds In Northern Borders Region During Migration Season
A flock of migratory birds has been observed in the Northern Borders region, captured by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA). This area, known for its balanced environment and varied landscape, serves as a crucial migration path for over 300 bird species each year. These birds find a natural sanctuary here during their seasonal journeys.
Nasser Al-Majlad, President of the Aman Environmental Association in the Northern Borders Region, emphasised the significant environmental and cultural contributions of these migratory birds. He noted that they provide essential ecological services that benefit both natural ecosystems and human communities.

Al-Majlad explained that migratory birds help control pest populations by consuming specific insects. This natural pest control reduces disease spread and lessens the need for chemical pesticides in agriculture. Additionally, these birds contribute to soil aeration, maintaining healthy soil conditions and promoting plant growth.
The demoiselle crane is one example of a bird that aids in seed dispersal near water marshes. By spreading seeds, these birds assist in plant cultivation, further supporting ecosystem balance. Al-Majlad stressed the importance of protecting these birds from illegal hunting and preserving their habitats.
Recognising the vital role of migratory birds, the National Center for Wildlife (NCW) has implemented strict regulations to protect them from illegal hunting. The NCW actively works to shield these birds from various threats, ensuring their safety during migration.
The Aman Environmental Association has initiated impactful environmental campaigns to raise awareness about conservation's importance. These efforts aim to equip the public with knowledge and tools necessary for safeguarding our natural environment.
To support both passing and migrating birds, water basins have been established to provide hydration. These resources are crucial for sustaining bird populations during their long journeys across regions.
The collaborative efforts between organisations like NCW and Aman Environmental Association highlight the commitment to preserving biodiversity. By protecting migratory birds and their habitats, they contribute significantly to maintaining ecological balance.
