Soqia Water Society Launches Hajj Water Distribution Project For Pilgrims

The Soqia Water Society in the Makkah Region has initiated a water distribution project for this year's Hajj season, aiming to provide 12 million bottles of chilled water to pilgrims. The distribution will occur at sacred sites, entrances to the Grand Mosque of Makkah, Miqat locations for Ihram, airports, Jeddah Islamic Port, and transport stations en route to the Grand Mosque.

Ayed bin Abdullah bin Dirham, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Soqia Water Society in the Makkah Region, stated that the project is being supervised by the Watering and Feeding Committee and Kidana Development Company. Kidana is a subsidiary of the Royal Commission for Makkah City and the Holy Sites. He mentioned that this initiative is supported by benevolent individuals during the Hajj season and the first 10 days of Dhul-Hijjah.

This year, the society will deploy 17 high-capacity 40-foot refrigerated water dispensers around the holy sites. Each dispenser can meet the needs of 60,000 pilgrims and will be refilled continuously. Qualified volunteer teams will distribute the water to pilgrims, adhering to the Prophet Muhammad’s saying: "The best charity is providing water."

Since the beginning of this year, the society has launched 166 volunteer initiatives involving 1,114 volunteers distributed across 11 teams. These volunteers have contributed a total of 7,879 hours, generating an economic impact of SAR179,113. The Saqia Water Society in Makkah has provided water services in the first four months of this year.

The number of beneficiaries from projects dedicated to Umrah performers and visitors to the Holy Mosque and Miqat locations reached 9,138,243. Additionally, beneficiaries from general programs such as orphan’s watering, endowments, cemeteries, mosques, and charitable societies totalled 6,976,602.

The initiative underscores the commitment to ensuring that pilgrims have access to essential resources during their spiritual journey. The involvement of volunteers highlights community engagement and support for this significant religious event.
