Wakana Sonobe And Ashlyn Krueger Shine On Day Three Of Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open

Caroline Garcia faced an unexpected defeat at the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open, losing in straight sets to Lulu Sun. Meanwhile, 17-year-old Wakana Sonobe continued her impressive form by defeating Yue Yuan, advancing to the last 16 on a busy day three in the UAE capital. Sonobe's victory marked her third consecutive straight-sets win, following her recent triumph at the Australian Open girls' singles.

Sonobe began the day with a strong performance against China's Yuan on Stadium Court. Having already beaten Hailey Baptiste and Cristina Bucsa in qualifying rounds, she maintained her momentum. The Japanese teenager took the first set 6-4 and, despite trailing 3-2 in the second, won four consecutive games to secure a 6-4, 6-3 victory.

Sonobe and Krueger Excel at Abu Dhabi Open

French player Garcia exited early after a lacklustre match against New Zealand's Sun. Despite Sun's previous seven-match losing streak in Main Draw events, she dominated from the start. Sun lost only one game in the first set and maintained control throughout the second set to win 6-1, 6-3 in just 75 minutes.

Krueger and Volynets Advance

In an all-American clash, Ashlyn Krueger triumphed over McCartney Kessler. Krueger won the first set comfortably but faced a tougher challenge in the second set tie-breaker, which Kessler edged out. However, Krueger regained composure to win the final set 6-3. Katie Volynets also progressed by overcoming Sonay Kartal of Great Britain with a comeback victory of 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Veronika Kudermetova managed to overturn a one-set deficit against Liudmila Samsonova. Kudermetova secured her place in the next round with a hard-fought win of 5-7, 6-1, 7-6. The doubles competition also began on day three with Jelena Ostapenko/Ellen Perez defeating Linda Noskova/Yulia Putintseva and Marketa Vondrousova/Laura Samson winning against Sofia Kenin/Magda Linette.

In another doubles match, Olivia Nicholls/Olivia Gadecki emerged victorious over Wu Fang-Hsien/Jiang Xinyu after an intense battle that ended with scores of 4-6, 6-3, 10-5.

Stadium Court will soon host an exciting match between Ons Jabeur and Jelena Ostapenko. Additionally, Emma Raducanu is set to face Marketa Vondrousova in a clash of Grand Slam champions. Other notable players like Belinda Bencic and Leylah Fernandez are also scheduled for action.
