Somalia Enhances Global Counter-Terrorism Collaboration With IMCTC Membership
The Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) recently welcomed Brig. Gen. Abdulrahman Turayre, the delegate from Somalia, marking a significant development in the coalition's efforts to combat terrorism. With Turayre's arrival, the coalition now boasts representatives from 33 countries, underscoring its growing international collaboration.
Maj. Gen. Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Moghedi, the Secretary General of the IMCTC, lauded this move by the Somali government as a testament to their commitment to international cooperation in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism. Al-Moghedi expressed optimism about the Somali delegate's contribution to the coalition's objectives and highlighted the critical role of IMCTC member states' delegates in driving forward strategic counterterrorism initiatives.

Given Somalia's strategic position on the eastern coast of Africa and its proximity to the Bab Al-Mandab Strait, Al-Moghedi emphasized the country's pivotal role in combating not just land-based terrorism but also maritime terrorism. He pointed out that extremist groups often target maritime routes to disrupt international development efforts, posing a significant threat to both regional and global security. This includes jeopardizing the freedom of navigation and economic supply chains.
The inclusion of Somalia in the IMCTC's collaborative efforts is seen as a crucial step towards enhancing the coalition's capabilities in addressing various forms of terrorism, particularly those affecting maritime security. Al-Moghedi's remarks underscored the importance of international participation and solidarity in tackling challenges that threaten peace and development across nations.
