Somali President's Visit To Saudi Arabia Marks New Era Of Bilateral Cooperation
The recent visit of Somalia's President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, upon the invitation of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, has marked a significant step in strengthening the ties between the two nations. The leaders engaged in comprehensive discussions on enhancing bilateral relations, with a keen focus on economic, trade, and investment opportunities. This meeting underscores the mutual interest in leveraging Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 to foster growth in key sectors such as agriculture, livestock, fisheries, transportation, and logistics services.

Somalia lauded Saudi Arabia's efforts to address climate change and pledged its support. The discussions also covered a broad spectrum of cooperation fields including electricity, renewable energy, technology, judiciary, air transport, culture, sports, education, media, and mining. Furthermore, military and security cooperation were deliberated upon with an emphasis on combating crime, terrorism, and extremism through shared information and coordinated efforts.

The visit also served as an opportunity for Saudi Arabia to commend the reforms and progress achieved by Somalia under President Mohamud's leadership. Notably, the restoration of security and stability in several regions was acknowledged alongside the UN Security Council's decision to lift the arms embargo on Somalia and the approval of debt forgiveness as a nod to Somalia's economic reform efforts.
Regional issues were not left untouched; the leaders expressed their deep concern over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. They advocated for an end to military operations and stressed the importance of protecting civilians and facilitating humanitarian aid. The discussions extended to Yemen and Sudan, where support for political solutions and dialogue was emphasized.
