SMA Unveils New Publication Showcasing Sharjah's Cultural Heritage At International Book Fair

The Sharjah Museums Authority (SMA) is taking part in the 43rd Sharjah International Book Fair, themed "This is How We Begin." This event invites attendees to explore the rich offerings of its museums. In conjunction with this, SMA has introduced a new book titled "Sharjah Museums," which guides readers through the captivating narratives within Sharjah’s museums.

The publication aligns with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah. He emphasised, "Museums are made to educate our children and our future generations." The book enriches Sharjah’s cultural library by highlighting the emirate's commitment to preserving its heritage. It is structured into three sections, each focusing on different aspects of Sharjah’s museums.

SMA Launches New Museum Publication in Sharjah

The first section, "History and Heritage," explores human existence in Sharjah through rare artefacts from ancient times. Notable items include a camel figurine from Muweilah, dating back to 900–600 BCE. The second section, "Art and Culture," delves into Sharjah’s artistic legacy, featuring Islamic art and contemporary works that celebrate creativity both locally and globally.

Science and Discovery in Focus

In the final section, "Discovery and Science," the book highlights Sharjah’s contributions to knowledge through scientific exhibits that engage visitors of all ages. The SMA exhibition platform complements this by offering an immersive experience with three sections that blend intellectual activities with historical artefacts.

Interactive Learning Experiences

The "Journey of Knowledge and Discovery" section encourages interactive learning to inspire critical thinking. Activities like the "Colour Square," "Triangle Puzzle," and "Sense of Touch" provide hands-on experiences in a stimulating environment. These activities aim to engage visitors in thought-provoking ways.

At the core of the platform lies the "Travel and Exploration Exhibition." Here, visitors can view four unique artifacts from Sharjah Museums that capture the essence of discovery and historical journeys. One such artifact is a camel figurine symbolising desert expeditions. Found at Muweilah archaeological site in Sharjah, it represents the camel’s vital role in connecting desert communities.

Through these initiatives, SMA continues to promote cultural education and appreciation for history among diverse audiences.
