During the closing ceremony, Dr Abdulaziz Al Musallam, Chairman of SIH, awarded Dr Saif Al Badwawi the Personality of the Year title. This accolade recognised his outstanding efforts in preserving folklore and documenting the cultural identity of the UAE and its neighbouring regions. Additionally, speakers, guests, and strategic partners were acknowledged for their significant contributions to the conference's success.

SIH Wraps Up Second Heritage Conference

Dr Saif bin Abdul Badawi expressed his gratitude to the institute for this recognition. He stated that this honour is not just a personal celebration but a tribute to all who care about heritage preservation. He believes this initiative will inspire further contributions to research and science.

In his closing remarks, Al Musallam highlighted the conference's theme, "Folklore in the Eyes of the Other," as a pivotal moment in heritage knowledge. He noted that it opened new perspectives on travel literature and revealed complex aspects of how others perceive local folklore. These sessions aimed to re-evaluate Western texts with an Arab critical perspective.

Al Musallam further emphasised that engaging with international written heritage is essential. He stressed that it requires scientific tools and critical awareness. The diverse dialogue witnessed during the conference is seen as an intellectual treasure that will guide future conferences and publications.

Conference Success and Future Vision

Abu Bakr Al Kindi, Director of SIH, expressed pride in the scholarly momentum and rich discussions at the conference. He noted that the high level of participation confirmed that popular heritage remains vibrant and meaningful. It forms a solid foundation for cultural dialogue and convergence.

Dr Mona Bounaama, Content Director at SIH and conference coordinator, praised the event's success and interaction levels within the program. She noted that presentations reflected a collective awareness of reading folklore through others' perspectives. This approach enhances documentation efforts and opens broader horizons for researchers in this field.

The Second Heritage Conference has set a precedent for future events by placing heritage at the centre of global cultural movements. It aims to chart new paths for researchers interested in understanding cultural identities through diverse lenses.
