Shurooq Highlights Eco-Friendly Approaches To Urban Growth And Sustainability

The Sharjah Investment and Development Authority, known as Shurooq, is spearheading efforts for a sustainable future. By incorporating eco-friendly methods into its projects, Shurooq is setting a benchmark for urban development in the region. "Through the use of environmentally friendly materials, renewable energy sources, innovative technology and a circular economy in its projects, Shurooq is leading the development process towards the future and providing a model that combines economic growth and environmental preservation," said Ahmed Obaid Al Qaseer, CEO of Shurooq, in a statement to the Emirates News Agency (WAM).

Al Qaseer highlighted that Shurooq's commitment to sustainability is evident in initiatives like Sharjah Sustainable City. This project spans 7.2 million square feet and includes 1,250 solar-powered villas. It also features parks, cycling tracks, and green spaces to encourage eco-friendly living. The city uses 'smart home' technology for energy monitoring and cost reduction. Additionally, it recycles wastewater for irrigation and diverts 85 percent of waste from landfills while converting the remaining 15 percent into energy.

Shurooq Advocates for Sustainable Urban Practices

Shurooq is applying sustainability standards across various sectors such as hospitality, real estate, entertainment, and culture. This approach shows that sustainable practices are not only feasible but also advantageous for both investors and society. Al Qaseer explained that these efforts support a greener future by fostering an investment ecosystem that enhances community life quality while contributing to economic growth.

The Ajwan project in Khorfakkan and Maryam Island project are examples where Shurooq is implementing high sustainability standards. These projects reflect Shurooq's dedication to integrating sustainability into urban development across different locations.

Shurooq's initiatives align with the UAE's goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050. They also support the United Nations Global Agenda 2030, which includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Al Qaseer emphasised that these efforts are part of a broader vision to promote tourism and investment ecosystems prioritising community well-being.

By adopting renewable energy sources and innovative technologies, Shurooq aims to create developments that balance economic growth with environmental conservation. Their projects serve as models for sustainable urban planning in the region.

Shurooq continues to lead by example in integrating eco-friendly practices into its developments. Their focus on sustainability not only benefits investors but also enhances societal welfare by promoting greener living environments.
