Shurooq Introduces Al Rayaheen Retreat To Enhance Cultural Tourism At Arabian Travel Market 2025
The Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) has revealed the inclusion of Al Rayaheen Retreat in Khorfakkan to the Sharjah Collection. This announcement was made during the Arabian Travel Market 2025. The retreat, developed with the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, is in its final restoration phase, expected to finish by the end of Q2. This project aims to enhance cultural and architectural value while supporting heritage preservation and sustainable tourism.
Al Rayaheen Retreat is situated in Freej Al Rayhan and comprises 20 restored heritage homes. The largest home, previously owned by the Al Mushtagal family, now features a restaurant, lounge, and mini museum. Accommodation options range from one- to four-bedroom units, each with traditional courtyards and native trees. Visitors can enjoy activities like kayaking, watersports, fishing, and guided heritage tours.

The retreat's name is inspired by the basil plant (Rayhan), which was once common in the area. The project follows directives from His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. It adheres to UNESCO-aligned restoration standards. Ahmed Obaid Al Qaseer, CEO of Shurooq, stated that this addition supports Sharjah’s strategy to diversify its tourism landscape through sustainable luxury hospitality rooted in culture.
Shurooq also highlighted progress on Nomad, an eco-retreat in Kalba featuring 20 solar-powered luxury trailers integrated into the natural landscape. This new venture is set to launch in Q3 2025. At ATM 2025, Shurooq provided updates on several projects including Moon Retreat, Najd Al Meqsar, Al Faya Retreat, Kingfisher Retreat, and Al Badayer Retreat. These destinations offer unique experiences based on Sharjah’s natural heritage with cuisine by Michelin-starred chefs focusing on sustainability.
In addition to these developments, Shurooq announced the rebranding of LUX* Al Jabal to LUX* Khorfakkan in collaboration with The Lux Collective. Scheduled to open in Q4 2025, this resort will feature 45 eco-designed units between Khorfakkan and Luluya. Furthermore, LUX* Al Bridi near Sharjah Safari is planned for a Q1 2026 opening with 35 luxury tents within a 784-hectare reserve.
Shurooq also spotlighted Mleiha National Park as part of their exhibit at ATM 2025. This park spans 34.2 square kilometres and integrates archaeology, ecology, and recreation. A new visual book titled "Mleiha: Ancient Treasures of the UAE," produced with Assouline, was unveiled at the event and is now displayed at the Shurooq pavilion.
Overall, these initiatives reflect Shurooq's commitment to enhancing Sharjah's tourism sector through sustainable practices while preserving cultural heritage. By offering diverse experiences rooted in tradition and nature conservation efforts across various locations within the emirate are being strengthened significantly.
