Shura Council Completes Landmark Legislative Year With Focus On National Development Initiatives

The Shura Council's ninth session's first year was marked by significant legislative and oversight activities, highlighting its crucial role in national development. The council made 462 decisions on various topics, discussed by specialized committees over 41 sessions lasting more than 120 hours. During these sessions, members made 433 interventions, showcasing their active involvement in the decision-making process.

In the health sector, the council focused on enhancing healthcare quality for citizens and residents. It emphasized that the Ministry of Health must meet patient safety standards in all hospitals and improve dental health services. Additionally, it called for collaboration with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties to expand training in genetic diseases and therapeutic nutrition.

To boost economic growth and create a thriving economy, the council took swift measures to support economic development. It urged the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority to review financial burdens on importers and exporters. The council also encouraged local businesses to join the Saudi Authorized Economic Operator Program to enhance their global competitiveness.

The council also addressed environmental protection and social services. It urged the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture to strengthen agricultural cooperatives' roles. Additionally, it called on the Saudi Water Authority to build capacity in the water sector. The council also emphasized adopting an integrated approach to geological risk management by the Saudi Geological Survey.

Education received special attention as a key pillar of Vision 2030. The council reviewed the Higher Education Fund's annual report, urging specific funding allocation for emerging universities. It also stressed investing in underutilized university assets to maximize their potential. Furthermore, it highlighted the need for advanced training abroad for students through the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation.

The transport, logistics, technology, and sports sectors were also prioritized by the council. It called on the Ministry of Transport and Logistic Services to promote public transport use and increase Saudization within the sector. Additionally, it urged Saudi Arabian Airlines Corporation to convert its subsidiaries into joint-stock companies while reviewing domestic ticket pricing strategies.

Encouraging private sector involvement in establishing electric vehicle charging stations was also emphasized as part of sustainable development efforts.
