Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Sees Remarkable 70% Increase In Visitors In 2023
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre (SZGMC) has consistently played a pivotal role in fostering tolerance and cultural understanding. In 2023, the mosque witnessed an unprecedented surge in visitor numbers, totaling 5,501,420, with a significant portion of these visitors arriving in groups. This increase underscores the mosque's global appeal, attracting individuals from across the globe, notably with Asia being the predominant source of visitors. The leading countries contributing to this influx included India, China, Russia, the United States, Germany, Italy, Pakistan, the United Kingdom, France, and the Philippines.
During Ramadan, the mosque became a hub of activity, hosting a variety of events that drew worshippers and visitors alike. In collaboration with a strategic partner, it managed to distribute 1.5 million Iftar meals. The Centre also extended invitations to representatives from various embassies and organizations to partake in Ramadan festivities at the mosque, furthering its mission of cultural rapprochement. A special program was also organized for new converts to Islam, focusing on teachings related to peace and coexistence.

To enhance the visitor experience further, SZGMC introduced several new initiatives. Among these was the "El-Daleel" multimedia device, which employs virtual reality technology to offer a guided tour experience. Additionally, the "Sura" Evening Cultural Tours were launched to accommodate visitors to the UAE with restricted schedules, enabling them to visit the mosque outside of regular working hours. The Centre also inaugurated the "Andalusia History and Civilization" exhibition and revealed the "Bari Al Jami" mural.
The Centre's efforts extended beyond its physical premises through participation in various global and local events such as travel and media congresses. This was part of its broader strategy to promote the mosque and Islamic culture on an international stage. Furthermore, it continued its investment in youth programs aimed at nurturing talents and developing cultural guides and specialists.
Significant maintenance and development projects were undertaken to ensure the mosque's upkeep and enhance visitor experiences. These projects included dome maintenance, golden crown maintenance, signage installation, and the implementation of a visitor statistics system. The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque's efforts have not gone unnoticed, receiving extensive media coverage worldwide and maintaining a strong social media presence that reaches millions globally.
Accessibility remained a top priority for SZGMC, with services such as transportation assistance, wheelchair access, and ample parking spaces being provided to ensure an inclusive experience for all visitors. The Centre also aimed to offer a comprehensive visitation experience through amenities like a marketplace, photography service, souvenir shops, and traditional Emirati restaurants.
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre has indeed achieved remarkable success in its mission to promote cultural understanding. Through its diverse programs and initiatives, it has attracted a vast number of visitors from around the world and solidified its status as a premier religious and cultural destination.
