Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed Leads Conservation Charge At Xposure 2024 Summit
The third edition of the Xposure International Photography Festival's Conservation Summit commenced on Thursday, marking a significant moment in the global dialogue on environmental conservation. The event was graced by the presence of H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and Chairman of Sharjah Media Council. This year's summit featured three impactful talks and presentations from prominent figures in the field, emphasizing the critical need for conservation efforts worldwide.
The summit serves as a pivotal platform within the Xposure festival, highlighting the essential role of protected areas in biodiversity preservation, climate change mitigation, and the sustenance of ecosystems. An opening video with a powerful message set the tone for the discussions: "There is no Plan B because we don't have a Planet B. You can choose to look the other way, but you can’t say you didn't know."

Alia Al Suwaidi, Director of Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB), delivered a speech that outlined an ambitious vision for a sustainable future. She called upon attendees to transform every silent picture and idea into actionable decisions and initiatives aimed at fostering a green and sustainable future. Al Suwaidi's address not only highlighted the summit's objectives but also underscored the importance of public stewardship in environmental conservation.
In her speech, Al Suwaidi stressed the necessity for innovative solutions to combat environmental degradation. She advocated for a strategy that goes beyond traditional methods, combining innovation with sustainability to effectively address conservation challenges. "As we flip through the images and delve into their depths, we realise that alone is not enough to champion our environmental conservation. We need to transcend traditional solutions and embrace an approach that combines innovation and sustainability," she remarked.
This year's Conservation Summit at the Xposure International Photography Festival has once again brought to light the urgent global imperative for conservation. Through its distinguished platform, it continues to spotlight the irreplaceable role of protected areas in safeguarding our planet's biodiversity and ensuring its future sustainability.
