Xposure 2024: A Global Photography Festival Inaugurated By Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed In Sharjah
H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of Sharjah Media Council (SMC), inaugurated the eighth annual International Photography Festival, "Xposure", on February 28th. This prestigious event, hosted by the Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB) at Expo Centre Sharjah, will run until March 5th. The festival is designed to underscore the profound influence of photography on our perception of the present and future and to acknowledge the pivotal role photographers play in documenting our history and broadening our worldview.
At the opening ceremony, Tariq Saeed Allay, Director General of SGMB, greeted participants and attendees. He highlighted the festival's mission to underscore the significance of photography in an ever-evolving global landscape. Allay pointed out that images serve as a powerful medium to foster understanding and shape attitudes towards the world.

Xposure 2023 boasts an impressive lineup of over 200 events, including workshops, seminars, film screenings, competitions, and awards. The festival presents a unique chance for both novices and seasoned photographers to refine their craft across various genres. Attendees have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a rich tapestry of cultural and artistic expressions through 2,500 photographs that encapsulate the journeys and insights of hundreds of photographers worldwide.
The festival is set to draw 400 photographers from 50 countries, showcasing the work of 150 top-tier photographers. Additionally, 18 international brands will participate in a trade exhibition, providing insights into the latest photographic equipment and technology.
Xposure's diverse program includes main exhibitions across several categories: documentary and photojournalism (25 exhibitions), nature and wildlife photography (15 exhibitions), travel and adventure, urban environment and street life photography, fine arts and creative expression (10 exhibitions), portrait art (5 exhibitions), and sports and action, technical and experimental photography.
The event also offers extensive learning opportunities through 66 workshops, educational programs, and discussion sessions led by 27 international experts. Adobe laboratories will conduct 10 training sessions on visual arts. Moreover, participants can engage in more than 34 inspiring dialogues, 45 discussion sessions, and 50 sessions aimed at evaluating artistic careers.
During its first three days, Xposure will screen 27 documentaries in its film gallery. The photo exhibition will also feature a collection of 2,500 photographs valued at over 22.4 million dirhams for art collectors to purchase, with opportunities to obtain signatures from the photographers.
Following the ceremony, Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed toured the festival pavilions, engaging with participating photographers to learn about their work's technical aspects and techniques. He also visited pavilions of participating entities and sponsors that support young photographers through various initiatives.
The opening ceremony saw attendance from numerous dignitaries including sheikhs, senior officials, heads of government departments, international photographers, photography enthusiasts, and media professionals. This gathering not only celebrates photographic art but also fosters a community of creatives dedicated to capturing life's moments through their lenses.
