Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City Unveils New Centre For Healthcare Innovation And Simulation
Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC), a member of the PureHealth network, officially opened its Centre of Innovation and Medical Simulation on Tuesday. The event was attended by dignitaries from Abu Dhabi’s Department of Health, SEHA, and partner university hospitals. This development underscores the hospital’s dedication to advancing health care education and setting new standards in the region.
The new facility serves as an advanced medical simulation centre for training health care professionals, including doctors, nurses, allied health workers, and medical students. It offers a range of educational experiences with simulation facilities covering basic to complex medical scenarios. These include specialised units for adults, paediatrics, and a unique pregnant woman simulation unit.

The centre also features advanced endoscopy and ultrasound simulators, as well as simulated burns and trauma management apparatus. These tools provide realistic, hands-on training across various medical pathologies, enhancing the practical skills of health care professionals.
Dr. Marwan Alkaabi, SSMC’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, stated, "As a transformation-orientated organisation, SSMC continues to be at the forefront of adopting state-of-the-art technology and innovative procedures to improve the overall patient journey." He emphasised that this multidisciplinary educational facility will enhance SSMC’s reputation for setting benchmarks in education and training standards.
Dr. Abdulkarim Saleh, Acting Dean Of Education at SSMC, added, "The Centre of Innovation and Medical Simulation is a significant addition to SSMC and the wider medical community." He highlighted the hospital’s ongoing commitment to developing the UAE's health care talent through continuous investment in research, education, and development.
