Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid's Tour At Art Dubai Emphasizes UAE's Cultural Vision

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, recently visited the 17th edition of Art Dubai at Madinat Jumeirah, running from 1-3 March. This event stands as a pivotal global platform for art and artists from the Middle East and the Global South. During his visit, His Highness expressed the UAE's dedication to fostering an environment conducive to the flourishing of artists and creative professionals worldwide.

Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the UAE's ethos of tolerance, openness, and inclusiveness. He noted that these values, coupled with a strong belief in the importance of creative expression, have cultivated a vibrant cultural environment in the UAE. This environment has attracted a diverse array of artistic talent, making the country a beacon for creativity.

Art Dubai 2023: A Cultural Vision by UAE

The ruler of Dubai highlighted the city's success in launching various art events that have become significant on the global cultural calendar. These events have not only enriched Dubai's cultural landscape but also established it as a hub for the world's leading creative minds. Sheikh Mohammed praised H.H. Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for her efforts in enhancing Dubai's cultural sector and elevating its global cultural stature.

Art Dubai has evolved into a major platform for showcasing world-class art, contributing significantly to Dubai's position as a central hub for the global creative economy. This evolution facilitates cultural dialogue and artistic exploration. Sheikh Mohammed affirmed the UAE's ongoing commitment to launching new initiatives aimed at strengthening its status as a destination for creative industries and expanding its cultural influence globally.

During his tour, Sheikh Mohammed was accompanied by several dignitaries, including Mohammad Ahmad Al Murr, Abdulrahman bin Mohamed Al Owais, Essa Kazim, Mona Ghanem Al Marri, and Jamal bin Huwaireb. Art Dubai features over 140 contemporary, modern, and digital gallery presentations from more than 60 cities across 40 countries. The event showcases newly commissioned works by top local, regional, and international artists, with over 65% representing the Global South.

Since its inception in 2007, Art Dubai has aimed to reflect Dubai’s diverse global communities and cultures. This year marks a significant increase in Dubai-based exhibitors, further contributing to the city’s cultural enrichment and its development as a leading global commercial art center.

Art Dubai is a cornerstone event of the Dubai Art Season, organized by Dubai Culture to celebrate the emirate’s burgeoning creative and cultural landscape. His Highness received briefings on Art Dubai’s support for the region’s evolving cultural ecosystem and its expansive cultural scene. The fair’s programming includes expanded partnerships, an extensive education and talks program, and a new Digital Summit—underscoring Dubai’s maturing local and regional creative communities.
