H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, recently met with students from the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge’s (ADEK) Khotwa Scholarship Programme. During this meeting, His Highness emphasised the importance of nurturing UAE National youth talent in both academic and vocational fields to meet local and global labour market demands.
Launched under the directives of H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in September 2022, ADEK’s Khotwa programme aims to provide higher education opportunities in the US and Canada to 6,000 Emirati students by 2028. The programme is designed to enhance students’ access to educational opportunities and broaden their academic horizons.
In 2023, the programme expanded its global scholarship partner network by collaborating with prestigious community colleges in Australia and New Zealand. Currently, Khotwa supports 694 participants, bringing the total number of students enrolled to 1,146 through to September 2024.
The fully-funded Khotwa programme equips cohorts with future-ready skills and broad educational experiences. This initiative empowers them to achieve their full potential and contribute significantly to the UAE’s knowledge-based economy.
During the meeting, His Highness urged Khotwa Scholarship Programme students to embrace their roles as UAE ambassadors. He encouraged them to act as representatives of the UAE's traditions and values while studying abroad.
Leadership Support
His Highness also reaffirmed the leadership’s commitment to supporting Emirati youth in developing their academic capabilities and honing their technical skills across various sectors. This support is crucial for enabling students to excel in both local and international arenas.
The meeting was attended by several current and prospective students of the programme. They highlighted the significance of Khotwa in developing skills and enhancing capabilities across academic and professional sectors.
After the meeting, students expressed their profound gratitude to H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the UAE’s leadership for their unwavering support. They reaffirmed their pride in serving as ambassadors for the UAE abroad.
The Khotwa Scholarship Programme continues to play a vital role in shaping a skilled workforce that meets both local and global demands. By providing high-quality education opportunities at leading institutions worldwide, it ensures that Emirati youth are well-prepared for future challenges.
