Sheikh Khaled Supports UAE Tour, Boosting Abu Dhabi As Cycling Hub
H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, recently made an appearance at the UAE Tour. This event, now in its sixth edition, is a prestigious cycling race that draws attention from around the globe. Organised by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, it saw participation from 140 cyclists representing 20 international teams.
The Crown Prince was present to greet the participants as they embarked on the sixth stage of the race. This particular segment spanned 138 kilometres and took the cyclists past several iconic landmarks in Abu Dhabi, including areas on Yas Island and streets such as Khalifa City, Zayed Sports City, Al Reem Island, Qasr Al Hosn, and Khaleej Al Arabi.

During his visit, Sheikh Khaled also took the opportunity to meet with junior cyclists at the Abu Dhabi Cycling Club. He emphasized Abu Dhabi's growing reputation as a global centre for major international sporting events. This is supported by the emirate's advanced sports infrastructure which plays a crucial role in hosting events like the UAE Tour, the UCI Urban Cycling World Championships, and the Bike Abu Dhabi Festival. These events are part of a broader initiative to promote cycling within the community and position Abu Dhabi as a leading cycling hub.
Accompanying Sheikh Khaled were several notable figures including Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Chairman of the Department of Community Development; Aref Hamad Al Awani, Secretary-General of Abu Dhabi Sports Council; and Matar Suhail Al Yabhouni Al Dhaheri, Team President of UAE Team Emirates. Their presence underscores the importance of sports and physical activities in fostering community development and international cooperation.
The UAE Tour is more than just a race; it's a testament to Abu Dhabi's commitment to sports and its capability to bring together athletes from across the world.
