Sheikh Hamdan Unveils 5th Edition Of Gov Games In Dubai, Attracting Global Teams

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, inaugurated the fifth edition of the Gov Games at Dubai Festival City, marking the event's most extensive iteration with 194 teams from across the globe. The Gov Games 2024, which runs until 3rd March, is a collaboration with DP World and the Dubai Sports Council, featuring a mix of physical and mental challenges for participants.

The opening day witnessed intense competition in the Battle of the Government category, with 84 men’s and 26 women’s teams showcasing their skills. Sheikh Hamdan highlighted the Gov Games as a beacon of global sporting values such as sportsmanship, teamwork, and community spirit. He commended the diversity and expansion of the event, particularly noting the participation of 28 international teams in the Battle of the Cities.

Sheikh Hamdan expressed that the Gov Games align with Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's vision to enhance Dubai’s global standing in hosting international sporting events. The initiative aims to foster human development, creativity, and innovation. He also emphasized the importance of the Gov Games in promoting teamwork and leadership skills among participants.

The introduction of the Junior Gov Games was highlighted as a step towards nurturing leadership qualities in youth. The first day's competition was fierce, with Dubai Police leading the women's Battle of the Government category with 98 points, followed closely by other teams.

The event has attracted a wide array of teams competing in various categories, including government entities, communities, global cities, and youth. The Gov Games 2024 enjoys support from numerous partners and sponsors such as DP World, Dubai Sports Council, Emirates General Petroleum Corporation (Emarat), Damac Properties, and others.

This year's edition builds on the success of previous years, aiming to enrich Dubai's sporting landscape further and attract over 4,500 participants from different sectors. The Gov Games continues to be a platform for fostering global sporting values and enhancing teamwork and leadership skills among its participants.
