Sheikh Hamdan Launches Dubai AI Campus Cluster At DIFC Innovation Hub

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, and Chairman of the Higher Committee for Future Technology and Digital Economy, inaugurated the Dubai AI Campus cluster at the Innovation Hub, Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). This marks phase one of the annual Dubai Universal Blueprint for Artificial Intelligence (DUB.AI) initiative, which aims to accelerate AI adoption across various sectors. The goal is to create an ecosystem that nurtures AI businesses and talents and drives innovation in AI.

Dubai has been launching strategic plans to promote the adoption of AI and its applications in all sectors. This aligns with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to establish the city as a global hub for the digital economy and a preferred destination for major AI businesses and top talent worldwide.

Dubai s New AI Campus Launched

According to Sheikh Hamdan, the Dubai AI Campus at DIFC is a vital step towards achieving the goal of doubling economic growth and increasing AI's contribution to Dubai and the UAE's GDP. The campus is expected to attract hundreds of businesses and create thousands of jobs in the coming years, further solidifying Dubai's position as a favorite destination for tech companies.

Dubai prioritizes competitiveness and aims to maintain its leading position as a hub for the digital economy in all projects and programs. The city's economic agenda focuses on knowledge, innovation, and future tech applications, ensuring sustained growth of Dubai's economy. Sheikh Hamdan believes that Dubai will continue to be a beacon of economic prosperity regionally and globally, attracting innovative minds.

The Dubai AI Campus, announced in 2023, is the largest dedicated cluster of AI and advanced tech in the MENA region. It contributes to the objectives of Dubai Economic Agenda (D33), which aims to generate an average of Dh100 billion annually for Dubai's economy through digital transformation. The launch of the campus is a significant step towards establishing Dubai as a global hub for the digital economy and a key player in the global digital landscape.

The Dubai AI Campus cluster is part of the DIFC Innovation Hub, which provides dedicated co-working spaces for tech startups, including AI businesses. Phase one of the campus is already complete, with over 75 businesses registered on a 10,000-square-foot campus. Phase two, set to attract over 500 companies and create more than 3,000 jobs by 2028, will extend over 100,000 square feet.

The opening of the Dubai AI Campus is expected to accelerate the realization of the goals of the Dubai Economic Agenda and support the future technology and digital economy strategies of the emirate. The cluster will bolster Dubai's position as a global hub for advanced technology and provide startups with access to investors, investment funds, major corporations, and traditional financial institutions.

The Dubai AI Campus has formed partnerships with leading tech companies such as Amazon Web Services, HP, Microsoft, Oracle, and Nvidia. These partnerships highlight the empowering nature of the campus and will make it home to the first innovation lab offering AI solutions to small businesses in the UAE, in collaboration with du. The cluster will provide high computing capabilities and state-of-the-art business accelerator programs to advance the implementation of AI applications in the private sector.

To support the next generation of AI-dependent businesses, the Dubai AI Campus will offer a unique AI license specially designed to meet their requirements. This license will utilize DIFC's independent legal framework. Businesses within the cluster will also benefit from DIFC's Digital Assets Law, the first of its kind globally, which offers legal certainty to investors and users of digital assets.

Dubai's commitment to promoting future technology is further demonstrated by its hosting of the premier Dubai AI and Web3 Festival. Organized by Dubai AI Campus in collaboration with the Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy & Remote Work Applications Office, and DIFC, the event will take place on 11 and 12 September 2024 at Madinat Jumeirah. The festival is expected to attract over 5,000 visitors, including investors and exhibitors, showcasing Dubai's dedication to embracing technological advancements.

Since its launch in 2021, DIFC's Innovation Hub has grown significantly and formed milestone partnerships while driving innovation and shaping forward-looking plans. It is now home to over 1,000 startups. As part of the Dubai Metaverse Strategy, the Innovation Hub recently launched the Metaverse Accelerator Program, which has already enrolled more than 150 students in its first cohort.
