Sheikh Hamdan Honours Winners At Dubai's Prestigious App Olympics Event
H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, recently celebrated the achievements of innovators at the App Olympics awards ceremony. This event is a cornerstone of the 'Create Apps in Dubai' initiative, which was unveiled in March 2023 to bolster Dubai's standing as a frontrunner in digital technology and smart applications. The ceremony, orchestrated by the Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy, showcased the city's commitment to nurturing a thriving digital ecosystem.
The App Olympics drew an impressive turnout, with over 1,100 applications submitted from 64 countries, highlighting the global interest in Dubai's digital ambitions. Notably, 12 ideas advanced to the final round, underscoring the high caliber of innovation among participants. Sheikh Hamdan's vision for Dubai is clear: to position the city among the top three global cities for technology innovation. He emphasized Dubai's role as a pivotal hub for research and innovation, offering sustainable growth and an unparalleled quality of life. The advancement of smart applications is seen as a key opportunity for Dubai to shine on the world stage.
The ceremony highlighted four outstanding applications across different categories. Emudy was named 'Dubai's App of the Year' for its innovative solution aiding students in their EmSATS exam preparation. 'The Intern' clinched the 'Best Social Impact App' award, while Bareeq was recognized as the 'Most Innovative App'. Takeem emerged victorious in the 'Best Advanced App' category, showcasing the diverse talent present within the digital sphere.
The competition was fierce, with entries from across various sectors including education, healthcare, and sustainability. The education sector saw the highest number of submissions, reflecting a keen interest in leveraging technology for learning and development. Winners were awarded a prize worth US$150,000 each, encompassing services provided by Builder.ai and extensive support from the Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy.
The 'Create Apps in Dubai' initiative is not just about recognizing talent but also about building a robust pipeline of digital innovators. It aims to train over 1,000 Emiratis in coding and mobile application development while tripling the number of app developers in Dubai by 2025. Furthermore, it seeks to support 100 new national projects that will lead to the creation of advanced mobile applications.
The event was well-attended by government officials and representatives from key organizations such as the Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy and the Dubai Future Foundation. This gathering underscored the collective effort to cement Dubai's status as a digital powerhouse.
Through initiatives like the App Olympics and 'Create Apps in Dubai', Sheikh Hamdan's vision for a digitally empowered future is gradually coming to fruition. These efforts not only showcase Dubai's innovative spirit but also its readiness to embrace and lead in the era of smart technologies.
