H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, recently engaged in a significant discussion on the pivotal role that Middle Eastern cities have historically played in propelling human progress. This event, which took place at the Za’abeel Majlis, saw the presence of notable figures including H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman of Dubai Airports, and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group.
The discourse was led by Dr. Roy Casagranda, a Professor of Government at Austin Community College (ACC) in the USA, who is recognized for his expertise on the Middle East. The session was attended by ministers and other dignitaries and centered on the influential role of Middle Eastern cities in the evolution of civilization, innovation, and commerce. These cities have been crucial in global trading routes. Dr. Casagranda pointed out that despite their diminished influence over the past three centuries, Dubai has emerged as a contemporary hub for growth and innovation, significantly impacting the future global landscape.

Dr. Casagranda outlined several key factors necessary for Middle Eastern cities to reclaim their historical roles in driving human development. Among these were education, innovation, and talent nurturing. He emphasized the importance of creative problem-solving and the government's role in fostering a supportive environment for social progress. Dubai was highlighted as a prime example where these principles are actively implemented, showcasing its commitment to generating new ideas through collaboration between government entities, the private sector, and the community.
In addition to the talk on historical contributions and future potentials of Middle Eastern cities, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed also met with volunteers from ‘Day for Dubai’. This initiative encourages Dubai residents to dedicate one day of their year to assisting those in need. The meeting was attended by Dherar Belhoul Al Falasi, Executive Director of Watani Al Emarat Foundation of UAE. Sheikh Hamdan praised the volunteers for their efforts and contributions, particularly highlighting their role during the COVID-19 pandemic and the successful organization of the UN climate conference COP28 in Dubai. Al Falasi expressed his gratitude towards Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed for promoting volunteerism and enhancing community partnerships.
This gathering not only underscored Dubai's innovative approach towards fostering growth and development but also highlighted the city's commitment to humanitarian efforts through volunteerism.
