Sharjah's Deputy Ruler Engages With Chess Club To Boost Emirati Sports

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, recently met with the Board of Directors of the Sharjah Cultural and Chess Club. The delegation was led by Sheikh Khalid bin Humaid bin Saqr Al Qasimi at the Sharjah Ruler’s office.

Sheikh Abdullah began by welcoming the delegation and attendees, expressing his hopes for their success in advancing Emirati sports. He emphasised the importance of continuing efforts to develop chess, where Emirati athletes hold a prestigious global position.

During the meeting, Sheikh Abdullah congratulated the club on its numerous achievements over the past season. He highlighted Grand Master Salem Abdul Rahman’s gold medal win at the Biel International Chess Festival and the Challenge Championship in Switzerland last July as notable successes.

The Deputy Ruler praised the ongoing work to train and support young players. He stressed the significance of leveraging the club's stars at international levels to inspire and elevate new talents.

Sheikh Abdullah listened attentively to a detailed explanation from the Board of Directors regarding their plans for the new season. The board outlined their efforts to develop and support chess, aiming to establish and enhance its practice widely with top-notch equipment at all levels.

The meeting also covered various programmes and plans that aim to maintain the advanced level achieved by local, regional, and international participants. These initiatives focus on spreading chess among new players, supporting them, and nurturing their talents through effective training and preparation.

Support for Youth Development

Sheikh Abdullah commended the Board of Directors for their dedication. He highlighted the importance of supporting youth in chess, reflecting UAE's commitment to mental, intellectual, and physical health. This focus on a healthy lifestyle contributes positively to individual and societal growth.

The meeting was attended by Taryam Matar Mohammed Taryam, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Chess Federation; Issa Hilal Al Hazami, Chairman of Sharjah Sports Council (SSC); along with several members of Sharjah Chess Club’s Board of Directors and other sports officials.

This gathering underscored Sharjah's dedication to fostering a robust sporting culture. By supporting chess development at multiple levels, they aim to ensure sustained success for Emirati athletes on global platforms.
