Sharjah Shifts To Distance Learning, Remote Work Amid Weather Concerns
In an immediate response to the looming weather conditions forecasted for Thursday and Friday (May 2 & 3), the Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Team in Sharjah has implemented a series of precautionary measures aimed at ensuring public safety. Among these measures, the shift to distance learning for all educational institutions and the suspension of public and sports activities stand out as significant actions.
The decision to switch to the distance learning system encompasses all schools and higher education institutions within the emirate of Sharjah. This move is directly attributed to the adverse weather conditions expected to hit the country later this week. By taking such a step, the authorities aim to minimise any risks to students, faculty, and staff, ensuring that the educational process can continue without compromise to safety.
Suspension of Sports and Recreational Activities
Further extending the scope of preventive measures, the Sharjah Sports Council has announced the cancellation of all sports activities and competitions. This decision reflects a cautious approach to avoid gatherings that could potentially escalate into health risks under the inclement weather conditions. Additionally, all parks in the emirate will be closed temporarily, further underscoring the authorities' commitment to public safety.
Remote Work Activation
In a parallel move, the Sharjah Government has activated the remote work system for employees of government departments, bodies, and institutions. This directive, however, exempts those in essential jobs that necessitate physical presence at the workplace. This strategic shift to remote work is designed to reduce the need for commuting, thereby reducing the exposure of the workforce to the expected severe weather, while also ensuring the continuity of governmental operations.
The suite of measures adopted by the Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Team in Sharjah underscores a proactive stance towards mitigating the impact of the expected weather conditions. By transitioning to distance learning, suspending public activities, and enabling remote work, Sharjah aims to safeguard the community's well-being amidst the forecasted weather challenges.
