Sharjah-US Cultural and Educational Cooperation

The meeting took place at Bait Elowal, where the US delegation was received by Sheikh Fahim Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Department of Government Relations, and Sheikh Majid bin Abdullah Al Qasimi, Director of the Department of Government Relations. The visiting team was led by Robert Raines, Consul General of the United States in Dubai and the Northern Emirates.

Senior representatives from the US Consulate and the US Department of State joined Consul General Raines. The setting at Bait Elowal provided an opportunity to exchange views on cultural diplomacy, institutional networking, and future programmes that could connect Sharjah-based partners with American counterparts.

During the visit, the Department of Government Relations outlined Sharjah’s wider cultural and knowledge landscape. Officials explained how the emirate supports international cooperation through its cultural institutions, knowledge initiatives, and links with global partners, reinforcing Sharjah’s role as a regional hub for dialogue and exchange.

The programme included a tour of Souq Al Jubail, where delegates received information on the market’s architecture, internal operations, and role in food supply for Sharjah. Officials described how traditional markets act as social and economic centres, reflecting local heritage, trade practices, and shared community values.

Commenting on the visit, Sheikh Fahim Al Qasimi said, "Engagement with diplomatic missions provides a practical platform for developing initiatives that strengthen Sharjah’s international partnerships. Cultural and knowledge exchange remain central to the emirate’s external relations." Sheikh Fahim highlighted that cooperation with the US Consulate can support cultural, artistic, and community projects that encourage youth participation.

Sheikh Fahim added that such joint work helps advance values linked to openness and diversity, which are shared between the emirate and US institutions. Consul General Raines stated, "Sharjah’s approach to development reflects a deep respect for innovation, heritage, and community. This visit highlighted strong opportunities for the United States and Sharjah to deepen cooperation across economic, cultural, and educational initiatives." The visit closed with both sides signalling readiness to pursue the discussed areas of cooperation.
