Sharjah Sustainable City Forum Underscores Community Impact On Environmental Sustainability

Sharjah Sustainable City, a pioneering sustainable master-planned community in the UAE, developed through a partnership between Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) and Diamond Developers, recently took a significant step towards climate action. The community hosted the Sustainability in Action forum, a timely event following International Mother Earth Day, aimed at engaging its residents in the global fight against climate change and underscoring the vital role communities play in safeguarding our planet.

The forum featured an enlightening talk by Tariq Qureishy, a renowned figure in business and futurism. His presentation focused on fostering collaboration, action, and transformation towards sustainability. The event saw a robust turnout from the city's residents, who participated in meaningful discussions on sustainability practices and explored ways to contribute positively to their urban community's sustainability goals.

One of the highlights of the forum was the emphasis on Sharjah Sustainable City's innovative sustainable urban farming programs. These initiatives have been instrumental in educating residents about sustainable farming practices within urban settings. By focusing on energy and water efficiency and minimizing the use of pesticides and plastics, these programs contribute significantly to local food security and environmental protection.

The event also celebrated the conclusion of this season's Strawberry Bounty Challenge, a community farm competition that began in February. The challenge encouraged individuals and family teams within the city to adopt sustainable farming practices. The top three growers were recognized for their dedication to sustainability and innovative farming techniques.

Yousif Ahmed Al-Mutawa, Chief Executive Officer of Sharjah Sustainable City, expressed his satisfaction with the forum's success. "As a city striving for Net Zero Energy, our goal is to empower our residents to lead by example in sustainability," he stated. Al-Mutawa praised Tariq Qureishy for his inspiring talk and congratulated the winners of the Strawberry Bounty Challenge for their commitment to sustainable practices.

The forum is part of Sharjah Sustainable City's ongoing efforts to build an exceptional and sustainable society aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Since its inception, the city has emerged as one of Sharjah's most inspiring communities, contributing significantly to the UAE's sustainable urban development ambitions.
