Sharjah Self-Defense Sports Club Secures No-Gi Championship Title At Khaled Bin Mohamed Bin Zayed Event

The Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship's seventh round, focusing on the No-Gi category, wrapped up at Fujairah's Zayed Sports Complex. Over two days, athletes from across the UAE showcased their skills in the Under-18, Adults, and Masters divisions. The event drew significant community support and marked the conclusion of this season’s No-Gi events.

The final day saw attendance from notable figures such as Sheikh Hamad bin Mohamed Al Sharqi, son of Fujairah's Crown Prince. Other attendees included H.E. Yousef Abdullah Al Batran from the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation (UAEJJF), Humaid Sabt Al Shamsi of the UAE Archery Federation, and Mohammed Nasser Amer of Zayed Sports Complex. Their presence highlighted the event's importance.

Sharjah Club Wins No-Gi Championship Title

Sharjah Self-Defense Sports Club claimed victory in the No-Gi category. They were followed by Al Ain Jiu-Jitsu Club in second place and Palms Sports Team 777 securing third. This achievement underscores the competitive spirit and dedication of these clubs throughout the championship.

Yousef Abdullah Al Batran remarked on the championship's role as a leading platform for jiu-jitsu in the UAE. "The Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship has once again demonstrated its status as a premier platform, highlighting the sport's rapid growth throughout the UAE." He also congratulated winning clubs for their athletes' skill and sportsmanship.

Humaid Sabt Al Shamsi noted that the event reflects both strong support for sports in the UAE and jiu-jitsu’s growing popularity. He stated that beyond winning gold, it promotes discipline, perseverance, and national pride while nurturing future talent. "The Sharjah Self-Defense Sports Club is happy to be a part of this adventure," he added.

Coaches and Athletes Reflect on Success

Igor Lacerda, Head Coach at Sharjah Self-Defense Sports Club, shared insights into their preparation: "We began this round with 15 athletes, and our training was solely focused on winning the title." He emphasized teamwork and technique refinement as key to their success.

Adam Edigov from Al Ain Jiu-Jitsu Club celebrated his gold medal win in the Under-18 -94kg division after three challenging matches. "I'm thrilled to have won after three tough bouts today," he expressed. Edigov values this medal highly due to competing against top players nationwide.

Next month will see Abu Dhabi host the Gi category finals where overall champions of this edition will be announced. This upcoming event promises to further solidify UAE’s reputation as a global hub for jiu-jitsu excellence.
