Sharjah Scout Mission And Emirates Astronomical Society Sign Partnership To Promote Astronomy Among Youth

The Sharjah Scout Mission (SSM) has entered into a partnership with the Emirates Astronomical Society. This collaboration aims to enhance cooperation and promote astronomical knowledge among scouts and youth. The initiative also seeks to highlight astronomy's significance as part of the UAE’s scientific and cultural heritage.

Major General Abdullah Saeed Al Suwaidi, Vice Chairman of the SSM Board, and Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Emirates Astronomical Society, signed the agreement at the SSM headquarters. Major General Al Suwaidi highlighted that this partnership is designed to develop skills, broaden perspectives, and connect individuals with their heritage and sciences.

Sharjah Scout Mission Partners with Astronomical Society

Astronomy was selected as a strategic focus to expand young people's horizons. It encourages them to think scientifically and engage with the universe's mysteries while fostering pride in their identity. This aligns with scouting programmes and merit badges, aiming to spread general knowledge in astronomical sciences.

Al Jarwan expressed that they are not only reviving a legacy of Arab scientific excellence but also establishing a foundation for new cooperation paths. This effort aims to promote astronomical culture and enhance its presence in community and scouting programmes while increasing societal engagement with this human science.

The agreement outlines several key areas of collaboration. These include exchanging expertise between both parties, organising joint events, training workshops, camps, and participating in national and community occasions. Additionally, there will be cooperation in publishing educational materials related to scouting and astronomy.

The partnership also aims to build broader collaborations with relevant entities to enhance mutual value. It supports marketing and investment efforts in scientific events and awareness-raising activities. This comprehensive approach seeks to foster a deeper understanding of astronomy within the community.

This initiative represents a significant step towards integrating astronomy into youth programmes. By doing so, it not only enriches their educational experience but also strengthens their connection to cultural heritage through science.
