Sharjah Ruler Honoured With Guinness Certificate For Largest Arabic Dictionary Project

His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, received a Guinness World Records certificate on Wednesday. This was for the Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language, which is now recognised as the largest and most comprehensive historical linguistic project globally, consisting of 127 volumes.

The Ruler of Sharjah expressed his delight at this recognition, highlighting the dictionary's significant scientific value. He acknowledged the efforts of everyone involved in its creation, including researchers, scholars, editors, proofreaders, and the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah. Their collective work has been crucial in achieving this honour.

Sheikh Dr. Sultan emphasised Sharjah's commitment to providing documented sciences and cultural projects for the Arab world and beyond. He noted the importance of collaboration among scholars from different countries, which enriches these extensive works that safeguard Arab history, sciences, and language.

He also mentioned that such encyclopedic projects will continue to offer knowledge across various fields. This ongoing effort ensures that valuable insights are shared widely.

The ceremony was attended by several notable figures. These included Mohamed Hassan Khalaf, Director-General of the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority; Engineer Khalid bin Butti Al Hajri, Director-General of University City; and Dr. Amhamed Safi Al-Mustghanemi, Secretary-General of the Arabic Language Academy in Sharjah.

Emma Lewis from the UK served as an international judge for world records. Kamel Yassin, Regional Director of Guinness World Records for the Middle East and Turkey, was also present alongside other officials and scholars.

Sheikh Dr. Sultan reiterated that this achievement is a testament to the dedication of all contributors to Arabic lexicography across the Arab world. The dictionary stands as a monumental work preserving linguistic heritage for future generations.

This recognition not only honours those who contributed but also underscores Sharjah's role in advancing scientific and cultural knowledge on a global scale.
