H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated the new University of Al Dhaid building on Monday morning. The event was attended by H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah. The university spans 412,000 square metres and can accommodate 2,000 students.
Upon arrival, the Ruler of Sharjah raised the university flag and unveiled a commemorative plaque in front of the administrative building. This marked the official opening of the University of Al Dhaid. He then toured the two-storey building to inspect its facilities and services designed to provide an ideal learning environment for students.
The University of Al Dhaid features 84 classrooms, 4 computer labs, 4 science labs, 8 lecture halls, 45 administrative offices, 2 multipurpose rooms, and a library. The building is constructed in Fatimid style and includes a main dome that rises 29 metres high. These facilities cater to both students and staff across various disciplines.
During his visit, Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi emphasised the university's role in offering essential sciences like agriculture and veterinary studies. He highlighted supporting farms such as crop, vegetable, dairy, poultry, and goat farms designed to enhance practical education for students.
The Ruler discussed a wheat cultivation project that achieved a world-leading protein content of 19 percent in its latest harvest. This wheat is free from chemicals and toxins and supports agriculture students at the university. Additionally, farm waste is repurposed as livestock feed.
He also mentioned a dairy farm project focused on researching unmodified cow breeds that produce A2A2 protein with 20 health benefits. This farm provides healthy products to the community while serving as a practical learning opportunity for students.
Future Development Plans
Sheikh Sultan revealed plans for several projects in 2025, which he described as a year of goodness. These include launching a central goat breeding project at the beginning of the year and opening a poultry farm next June. There are also plans to increase milk production at the Mleiha dairy farm by expanding the number of cows.
The Ruler also discussed other initiatives such as Reed cultivation for chemical-free products and organic honey production from reserves in Sharjah. These projects aim to provide bees with a natural environment to feed on pure trees.
Additional Projects Highlighted
He talked about the Madina water project involving a deep lake where excess water is added during winter. He prayed for divine rainfall to help resolve water issues by producing rivers from the earth.
In his speech, Sheikh Sultan expressed satisfaction with these achievements and praised students at the University of Al Dhaid who support food security projects. He noted that these students will manage future projects after receiving sufficient education, contributing to community health.
