Sharjah was chosen for its strategic location and cultural reputation. The city hosts significant institutions like museums and research centres. Its position facilitates access to Gulf countries, the Middle East, and North Africa. This makes it an ideal hub for ICESCO's activities.

The new headquarters spans over 3,000 square meters within a land area exceeding 42,000 square meters. It houses various departments such as Communications, Services, Culture, and Technical Support. The building can accommodate 95 employees and host 245 visitors across its facilities.

The building includes a theatre with 150 seats, a training hall for 70 people, and a translation room serving both areas. The layout reveals departments like Finance and Human Resources with six offices each. These facilities aim to support ICESCO’s mission in education and culture.

During his address at the event, Dr Salim bin Mohammed Al Malik praised Sharjah's commitment to cultural development. He highlighted that establishing ICESCO's office here reflects the Ruler's vision for nurturing intellect as an investment in human capital.

Acknowledging Contributions

Dr Al Malik announced the "Guardian of Knowledge" title awarded to the Ruler of Sharjah for his dedication to knowledge advancement. He also introduced the "ICESCO-Sultan Al Qasimi Award for Cultural Excellence" to encourage creativity.

The ceremony included two videos showcasing ICESCO’s role in preserving Islamic heritage and fostering cooperation among Islamic nations through innovative programs. These initiatives aim to document heritage sites and promote educational programs.

Partnerships and Collaborations

Salem Omar Salem stressed the importance of partnerships with local and regional organisations. "We firmly believe that our mission can only be achieved through concerted efforts," he said. This collaboration aims to bridge East and West by exchanging ideas.

The Ruler of Sharjah received commemorative shields from partners during the event. Additionally, he was presented with a certificate titled "Guardian of Knowledge" along with an artistic piece symbolising Arab identity.

Innovative Platforms

On the sidelines of the opening ceremony, His Highness was briefed on the Emirates Researchers Platform using AI to predict future topics for studies within OIC member states. This platform ranks Islamic countries based on research output.

The Ruler also received the first issue of the International Journal of Islamic Studies from Emirates Scholar Centre for Research and Studies. This publication focuses on Islamic cultural studies in Arabic and English.

The event concluded with group photographs featuring dignitaries like Sheikh Saud bin Sultan Al Qasimi and Sheikh Majid bin Abdullah Al Qasimi alongside senior officials from ICESCO member states.
