Sharjah's Ruler Launches The Second Edition Of The Animation Conference
On Wednesday, the Sharjah Animation Conference (SAC) 2024 commenced its second annual edition, inaugurated by H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. The event, held at Expo Centre Sharjah from 1st-5th May, saw the presence of notable figures including H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), among other dignitaries.
The SAC 2024 aims to enhance the collaborative capacities within the animation and creative industries in the UAE and beyond. It serves as a pioneering platform for emerging talents to gain insights from leading industry experts. The conference boasts a rich agenda with 60 events spanning 19 workshops, 28 seminars and panel discussions, and 6 inspiring speeches, alongside exhibitions and concerts.
During the opening ceremony, attendees were treated to a speech by Khawla Al Mujaini, Executive Director of SAC, who highlighted Sharjah's commitment to advancing the animation industry as part of its broader vision for a creative and knowledge-based society. Pietro Pinetti, Artistic Director of SAC, also addressed the gathering, emphasizing animation's role in cultural expression and storytelling.
The event is set to celebrate the 30th anniversary of The Lion King with an exclusive world premiere of the short film Mushka by renowned animator Andreas Deja. This initiative underscores SAC's dedication to fostering a vibrant environment for creative expression and innovation in animation.
Al Mujaini stressed the importance of animation in shaping future generations and expanding their horizons. She noted that under Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi's leadership, SBA is exploring ways to leverage books in developing animation content. This effort aligns with H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi's belief in investing in individual talent as a foundation for societal development.
The SAC not only aims to bolster Sharjah's status as a global hub for creative production but also seeks to strengthen ties between publishers, writers, illustrators, animators, and film production companies. This collaborative approach is pivotal in shaping societies enriched with art and beauty.
