Sharjah Ruler Sheikh Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi Meets President Of National Library Of France To Enhance Cultural Ties
His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, recently met with Gilles Pécout, President of the National Library of France, at the Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi Centre (Dara). The meeting was attended by Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), and other dignitaries.
The French delegation was warmly welcomed by His Highness, who highlighted the importance of Dara. This centre is home to a vast collection of books, manuscripts, and rare artifacts. The visit included a tour of the library’s Arabic and English sections, showcasing its extensive collection.
During the tour, the delegation explored various historical artifacts such as maps, documents, manuscripts, photographs, and both visual and audio recordings. These items provide genuine historical insights into the region's past through original documents and illustrations capturing significant events.
The library also displayed medals, honorary diplomas, and mementos. Historical photographs featuring His Highness with world leaders were shown alongside prestigious awards recognising his contributions across different fields.
After the tour concluded, discussions focused on enhancing cultural and literary collaboration between Sharjah and the French National Library. His Highness and Gilles Pécout exchanged gifts and publications to further solidify their relationship.
The French delegation expressed deep appreciation for the warm reception they received. They admired the invaluable artifacts and rare manuscripts housed within Dara. Their admiration extended to His Highness's efforts in preserving cultural heritage.
