Sharjah's Ruler Initiates Project For Quranic Schools Across Africa To Honour Reciters
In a significant move to promote Quranic education across Africa, H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has tasked Al Qasimia University with establishing Quranic schools throughout the continent. Announced during a ceremony on Wednesday, these institutions aim to focus on the memorisation and teaching of the Holy Quran, ensuring the well-being of its students and utilising the university's graduates to disseminate Quranic studies in their respective countries.
The announcement was made in the presence of H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Sharjah Media Council. The event also celebrated nine distinguished reciters from the Islamic world, acknowledging their expertise in recitation and the melodious quality of their voices. These reciters were honoured at Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi Centre for their contributions.

Furthermore, the Ruler of Sharjah approved the launch of a television channel dedicated to the Holy Quran. This channel will encompass all aspects related to Quranic studies, including interpretations, scholars, and reciters, thereby augmenting Sharjah's efforts to serve the Holy Quran and Islamic culture.
Sheikh Sultan underscored the importance of not only preserving the Quran in its physical form but also embedding its noble teachings within hearts. He highlighted how these teachings advocate for good manners and adherence to what is pleasing to Almighty Allah. The initiatives by Quranic institutions in Sharjah have notably increased the number of Quran memorisers and enhanced mosque maintenance through continuous remembrance and understanding of the Quran.
The honoured reciters expressed their gratitude towards H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi for his support and patronage of the Holy Quran and its scholars. They appreciated his efforts in fulfilling their desire to record a complete and meticulously recited Quran, a project that spanned several years before its broadcast on Sharjah Quran Radio.
The process of recording these recitations involved extensive verification, evaluation, technical editing, and final review by scholars proficient in Qira'at and Tajwid. The selected reciters were chosen based on their exceptional performance and adherence to Tajwid standards, specifically following Hafs's recitation of Asim.
This initiative not only honours those dedicated to the memorisation and recitation of the Holy Quran but also aims to foster a deeper understanding and adherence to its teachings across Africa through the establishment of dedicated Quranic schools.
