Sharjah Ruler Inaugurates New Buildings Of Sharjah City For Humanitarian Services In Barashi Area

His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated new buildings at the Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services (SCHS) in Barashi. He praised the efforts of Sheikha Jameela bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of SCHS, for her dedication in establishing the city after studying in the United States. The city is nearing its 50th anniversary.

The new facilities cover 100,000 square metres and represent the first phase of development. They offer an inclusive educational and rehabilitative environment based on international standards. His Highness commended the design and functionality of these structures, which cater to the needs of beneficiaries. He highlighted the importance of expanding the city along Emirates Road to include both treatment centres and employee housing.

Sheikh Dr. Sultan emphasised allocating additional land adjacent to SCHS for future development. This expansion aims to elevate the city's services for people with disabilities to a global level. The Ruler noted an increase in enrollment applications, attributing it to high service quality and a strong reputation built by Sheikha Jameela and her team.

The government covers operational expenses while institutions and individuals contribute generously. Sheikh Dr. Sultan expressed gratitude to government entities for their cooperation in enhancing the city's environment by improving roads and removing barriers.

The Big Heart Foundation donated AED44.4 million for constructing a treatment centre as part of SCHS's second phase. This centre will span 8,188 square metres, serving 2,800 beneficiaries. Sheikh Dr. Sultan urged continued excellence in providing treatment services, aiming for SCHS to become a leading global centre for supporting individuals with disabilities.

The Ruler unveiled a commemorative plaque marking the official opening of new buildings like the Sharjah Autism Centre, Al Wafa School for Capacity Development, and an administrative building. These facilities serve 3,000 people daily through innovative initiatives grounded in scientific research.

Touring New Facilities

During his visit, Sheikh Dr. Sultan toured the Sharjah Autism Centre, which accommodates 120 students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The centre spans 4,934 square metres and offers specialised services based on global best practices. His Highness interacted with students and observed lessons in various classrooms.

He also visited Al Wafa School for Capacity Development, which serves 352 students with intellectual disabilities through specialised programmes aligned with international standards. The school includes therapy rooms and units for severe disabilities within an inclusive learning environment.

Administrative Building and Strategic Planning

The tour included a visit to SCHS's new administrative building housing offices, meeting rooms, and multipurpose halls designed to meet humanitarian service needs while preparing for future growth based on scientific research.

Sheikha Jameela bint Mohammed Al Qasimi expressed gratitude towards Sheikh Dr. Sultan's support across various fields benefiting persons with disabilities. She stated that "The city’s new buildings are not only an achievement for SCHS but also a milestone for the Emirate of Sharjah and the UAE."

SCHS has been committed since its founding in 1979 to providing integrated services by expanding facilities now comprising 13 specialised centres across three branches: Khorfakkan, Al Dhaid, Kalba.

Thanks to Sheikh Dr. Sultan's patronage, SCHS has established itself as a pioneering institution locally and internationally advocating empowerment among individuals with disabilities throughout UAE Arab world globally.
