Sharjah Ruler Opens New Arab Theater Institute Headquarters In Al Hira

His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and the Honorary President of the Arab Theater Institute (ATI), inaugurated the institute's main office in Al Hira, marking a significant milestone for the theatrical community in the Arab world. This event underscored Sharjah's role as a cultural hub in the region, with the presence of theatre artists from across Arab nations highlighting the city's importance in the cultural landscape.

The unveiling of the headquarters commenced with Sheikh Sultan revealing a commemorative plaque and extending a warm welcome to the gathered theatre artists. In his speech, the Ruler of Sharjah underscored his enduring commitment to the theatre, announcing a financial contribution to support the ATI's mission. He emphasized theatre's vital role in society, enriching and advancing cultural understanding.

Sharjah s New Cultural Milestone

Sheikh Sultan's tour of the ATI's premises showcased the blend of traditional heritage with modern amenities. The headquarters, housed in two restored heritage buildings in Al Hira's old town, feature administrative offices, technical departments, a library, and facilities for training and digital documentation, all designed in the Emirati architectural style with intricate wood carvings and plaster decorations.

Ismail Abdullah, Secretary-General of the ATI, expressed the theatre community's gratitude towards the Ruler of Sharjah for his unwavering support. Abdullah highlighted the new headquarters as a beacon for Arab theatre artists, encouraging further development in the field. He stressed the importance of supporting Arab theatre as a means of elevating the art form across all Arab cities.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by prominent figures such as Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Owais, Head of the Department of Culture; Dr. Salah Butti Al Muhairi, Head of the Initiatives Implementation Authority "Mubadara"; and Mohammed Obaid Al Zaabi, Head of the Ceremonies and Hospitality Department.

Arab artists attending the event expressed their appreciation for Sheikh Sultan's support, viewing the opening of the ATI headquarters as a pivotal moment for Arab theatre. The institute is poised to become a central hub for playwrights and theatre practitioners, fostering creativity and innovation in the Arab theatrical tradition.
