Sharjah Ruler Witnesses Key Addresses By Global Leaders At IGCF 2024

H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, attended the opening of the 13th International Government Communication Forum (IGCF 2024). The event featured several keynote speeches that inspired attendees. H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of Sharjah Media Council, were also present.

The forum commenced with a speech by Sheikh Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Butti Al Hamed, Chairman of the National Media Office and UAE Media Council. He discussed the role of national media in promoting development and prosperity. He compared the national press to a symphony where diverse voices harmonise to reflect the nation’s identity and ambitions.

Sheikh Abdulla highlighted the significance of media in fostering cohesive and resilient communities. He stated, "Inspired by the Ruler of Sharjah’s belief that culture and civilisation protect society from violence and extremism, this forum is a crucial platform to keep pace with rapid technological advancements and new media. We work in the National Media Office, which follows the vision of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and are designing a media system to uphold the strong status of the UAE in the world."

He also mentioned how effectively the UAE used media during the COVID-19 pandemic to combat misinformation, build public trust, and enhance government communication.

Japanese economist Fumio Hayashi addressed Japan's economic challenges, focusing on demographic changes as a key issue. He compared Japan's situation with that of the UAE, noting that the UAE benefits from a younger population.

British explorer Bear Grylls shared his experiences on resilience, emphasising learning from failure. He recounted his challenges during his ascent of Mount Everest, driven by sheer willpower.

Focus on Education and Innovation

Chinese economist Prof. Justin Lin stressed education's critical role in fostering innovation and reducing income inequality. He praised Sharjah's emphasis on cultural tourism and education while highlighting the UAE’s significant investment in education as part of its economic diversification efforts.

Moroccan inventor Rachid El Yazmi discussed empowering Arab youth and fostering innovation. He showcased his work on lithium batteries, including fast-charging NLV batteries optimised for high-temperature environments.

Youth Contributions

Young inventor Ali Humaid Al Lougany shared his journey and demonstrated his "robotic doctor" invention designed to provide medical assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The IGCF 2024 took place from September 4th to 5th at Expo Centre Sharjah. It featured over 250 speakers and experts leading discussions across 18 stages. The forum included more than 160 activities such as panel discussions, keynote speeches, workshops, and youth-focused initiatives in collaboration with over 40 partners.

Looking ahead, Sheikh Abdulla urged continued use of media as a force for good aligned with UAE leadership's vision to advance science, culture, and prosperity.
