Sharjah Ruler Chairs Meeting Of University Of Khorfakkan’s Board Of Trustees

H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member, Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University of Khorfakkan, commended the university's achievements during the 2023/2024 academic year. He highlighted the ongoing development of its educational process and administrative systems, as well as the implementation of regulations approved by the university’s Board of Trustees (BoT) in its previous meeting.

During the third BoT meeting held at the university's headquarters on Wednesday, Dr. Sheikh Sultan emphasised the board's crucial role in overseeing university affairs and making decisions that contribute to its progress. He acknowledged the efforts of board members representing various sectors in advancing the university.

The President directed the introduction of new academic programmes to meet the needs and aspirations of the UAE and Sharjah. He also stressed enhancing the university’s societal responsibility and serving the labour market. Additionally, he instructed that admissions be opened for high school graduates from the past three years.

The board approved a cooperation agreement between the University of Khorfakkan and the University of Exeter for a Bachelor of Marine Sciences programme. Future agreements will cover master’s and doctoral programmes in marine sciences. New programmes in data intelligence for bachelor’s and master’s levels, as well as marine sciences and business administration at the master’s level, were also approved for submission to the Ministry of Education commission.

The board approved promoting Dr. Ali Hilal Al Naqbi, Vice Chancellor of University of Khorfakkan, from Associate Professor to Professor in Medical Engineering. Various topics related to administrative and educational aspects were discussed, along with periodic reports on university performance.

The chancellor’s report covered work developments, teaching progress, and significant results since the last BoT meeting. Efforts to implement university goals and aspirations were also highlighted. Reports from academic, financial, compliance, audit committees, and Financial Resources Development Committee were reviewed for recommendations to advance various fields at the university.

University Housing Project

On the sidelines of the BoT meeting, Dr. Sheikh Sultan was briefed on designs for a university housing project aimed at providing adequate housing for male and female students. The project includes two buildings—one for female students and another for male students—and aims to create a conducive environment during their study period.

He also visited a female students’ rest area designed in Andalusian style, covering 1,250 square metres with an 18-metre height. This area provides students with a place to study or collaborate on scientific projects and includes outlets for food and other necessities.

Al Naimiy, Chancellor of University of Sharjah; Dr. Ahmed Ibrahim Al Shamaa, Chancellor of University of Khorfakkan; Dr. Hashim Abdullah bin Sarhan Al Zaabi, Chancellor of Sharjah Maritime Academy; Issa Saif bin Hanzal, Director of Sharjah Government Legal Department; Fawzia Rashid Al Qadi, Director of Municipality of Khorfakkan; Mohammed Ahmed Mohammed Al Shehhi, Member of Board of Directors of Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and Dr. Stuart Bearhop, Head of Animal Ecology at University of Exeter.
